Nicknamed the "Lord Protector. Was the Puritan Leader of the Civil War.

Was hiding out in France after the English Civil War, when he was invited back by the English upper class. Kicks the Dutch out of America in order to reward his supporters. Only revealed that he was Catholic on his deathbed.

Jamestown & Pilgrim colony;
Was James VI of Scotland. Son of Mary, Queen of Scots, a Catholic who fled the Presbyterian uprising, and was later executed by Elizabeth I. Raised Presbyterian, and ascended British throne after the death of the childless Elizabeth.

A sickly boy- ascended the throne after the death of his father, Henry VIII, and had a short rule.
William III and Mary II

Mary II, sister of both Charles II and James II, had married William of Orange, King of the Dutch. They were invited to England to rule after the Glorious Revolution. After Mary's death, William continued to rule, which was an oddity, as he wasn't apart of the bloodline.

Went to England, but never learned the language. Was ruler during King George's War and the 7 years War.
Mary I

Nicknamed "Bloody Mary"- heavily persecuted the Anglicans. Married to King Philip of Spain.
James II

Catholic;
Formerly the Duke of York. Brother of Charles II. Publicly announced that he was a Catholic, which was tolerable until his wife had a child. The Glorious Revolution of 1688 saw him abdicate before any blood was spilled. He was exiled.
Henry VIII

Divorce with Catherine of Aragon precipitates the creation of the Anglican church. Had 6 wives in an attempt to have a male heir. Their fates are described in this short rhyme: "Divorced, beheaded, died,/Divorced, beheaded, survived".

A German branch of the royal family, to whom the English upper class looked to after the Stuarts died out. Was weak, and controlled by ministers. Never learned English, and never went to England.
Elizabeth I

Elizabeth leads England into the Enlightenment, or the "Elizabethan era". Nicknamed the Virgin Queen. In power when the Spanish Armada attacked in 1588.
Richard Cromwell

Son of Richard Cromwell. Took throne after father's death, but was kicked out in favor of Charles II.
