- pattern, instance
- A general idea for which there are many instances.
- empty set, null set, { },
- A set which has no elements in it.
- Square of the Square Root Property
- For any nonnegative number n, the square root of n times the square root of n = n
- Venn diagram
- A diagram used to show relationships between sets
- interval, endpoints
- The set of numbers between two numbers a and b, possibly including a and b.
- open sentence, solution
- A sentence that contains at least one variable.
- variable
- a letter or other symbol that can be replaced by a number (or other object)
- whole numbers, integers, real numbers

- equal sets
- Two sets that have the same elements.
- leg, hypotenuse
- leg=one of the sides that forms right angle; hyptenuse = longest side
- algebraic expression
- expression with one or more variables
- counterexample
- An example for which a pattern is false.
- equation, inequality
- sentence with an equal sign; inequality is sentence with <, >, not equal to etc.
- numerical expression
- expression with numbers and operations and no variables
- open interval, closed interval
- open: an interval that does not include its endpoints; closed: does include endpoints
- evaluating an expression
- finding the numerical value of an expression
- Pythagorean Theorem
- a squared + b squared = c squared. Sum of sides squared = hypotenuse squared

- domain, solution set
- The values which may be meaningfully substituted for a variable.
- discrete
- A situation in which some numbers between given numbers do not have meaning.
- square root, radical sign
- If A = s squared, then s is a square root of A
- perfect squares
- A number which is the square of a whole number.
- union
- The set of elements in either set A or set B.
- intersection
- The set of elements in both set A and set B.
- sentence
- 2 algebraic expressions connected by =, not equal to, <, >, etc.
