- Mathemematical Modeling
- A mathematical expression used to describe a real life situation. Ex John has 3 dollars and makes 4 dollars an hour. 4x+3
- Variable
- a letter that is used to represent one or more numbers Example-x
- Power
- An expression like 4squared
- Exponent
- The number of times the base is used as a factor. Ex- 4 squared 2 is the exponent
- Line Graph
- Line graphs are very useful when showing changes in data over time. Ex - http://www.awe.asn.au/branches/sunshine-coast/images/commom_line_graph.jpg
- Inequality
- When a symbol such as >,<, is placed between two expressions Ex- 3x + 7<5
- Greater Than
- > Ex 6> 2+3
- Function
- A rule that establishes a relation between two quantities called the input(domain) and output(range). Ex- Input 3,5,7,8 Output 1,2,3,4
- Evaluating the Expression
- Replacing each variable in an expression by a number Ex- 2x +3=13 x=5
- Less Than
- < Ex 2+3<6
- Order of Operations
- 1. Parantheses/Distribute 2. Evaluate Powers 3. Do Multiplication and Division Left to Right 5. Addition and Subtraction Left to Right
