- Enlightenment
- a philosophical movement in Europe that emphasized reason, scientific examination, and the study of society
- Great Purge
- arrests & executions of over a million people by Stalin in the 1930's as an attempt to eliminate communisim & opposition to his rule of the Soviet Union.
- domino theory
- if one nation goes communism, its neighbors will follow
- free trade
- trade between countries without taxes or other restrictions
- glasnost
- Gorbechev's idea of openess to ideas & information between the Soviet Union and the West
- fascism
- system of government that promotes extreme nationalism, repression, anti-communism, and is ruled by a dictator
