- Use of water withought removing from its source for activities eg. fishing, hydroelectric power

- Natural Increase
- The difference between the birthrate and death rate of a country
- Urbanazation
- Process of changing between rural to urban
- Latitude
- an imaginary line around the Earth parallel to the equator
- Birthrate
- the # of births per year for every 1,000 people (*)
- Longitude
- Distance east or west of the prime meridian, measured in degrees
- Map
- a diagrammatic representation of the earth's surface (or part of it)
- Tertiary Industry
- Businesses whose prime function is related to providing a service to the comunity
- Climate
- average weather conditions of a particular area
- Population Distribution
- Pattern showing were people live in an area eg. a scattered distribution along a coastline
- Ecozone
- region based on its ecological characteristics
- Pull Factor
- factor such as freedom or employment opportunities that attract a person to a country
- Pangea
- (plate tectonics) a hypothetical continent including all the landmass of the earth prior to the Triassic period when it split into Laurasia and Gondwanaland
- Legend
- explanatory list of symbols on a map
- Population Pyramid
- graph that depicts population distribution by age and sex
- Population Density
- The average number of people in a square kilometer. (population
- Metropolis
- A chief city, either the capital or the largest or most important city of a state or province
- Immigration Rate
- A number of new Canadians who have emigrated here from another country per 1000 people of Canada's population.
- Refugee
- one who leaves his or her home country to seek protection from war, persecution, or some other danger
- Basic Industry
- An industry that sells its product outside of the community, bringing money into the community
- Scale
- measurement on a map that represents a real distance on a map
- Demography
- the branch of sociology that studies the characteristics of human populations
- Net Migration
- The difference between the level of immigration and the level of emigration.
- Global Warming
- an increase in the average temperature of the earth's atmosphere
- Dependancy Load
- Portion of the population that is not in the work force; total people under 14 under over 65.
- Time Zones
- Pasific , Mountain,Central, Eastern (our time), Atlantic, New Found Land. All an hour apart exept New Found Land wich is a half our later than Atlantic
- Push Factor
- factor, such as unemployment or the lack of freedom of speech, that makes people want to leave their country and move to another one
- GDP
- Gross Domestic Product (*)

- the # of deaths per year for every 1,000 people
- GPS
- global positioning system-group of satelites used to pinpoint absolute location
- Primary Industry
- the part of the economy that produces raw materials; examples include agriculture, fishing, mining, and forestry.
- Weather
- the meteorological conditions: temperature and wind and clouds and precipitation
- Growth Rate
- Rate of increase or decrease of a population
- Greenhouse Effect
- warming that results when solar radiation is trapped by the atmosphere

- Water that is perminently removed from a river for consumption in homes and buisinesses or agriculture
