Questo and quello (this and that)

Questo (this) and quello (that) are demonstrative words that indicate a particular person, place, or thing: THis house is pretty. Who is that student? Both words can function as either demonstrative adjective or demonstrative pronouns.
1. When functioning as demonstrative adjectives (aggettivi dimonstrativi), questo and quello precede the noun as they do in English.
a. Questo indicates things that are near the speaker. It has four forms: questo, questa, questi, and queste. The contraction quest' is common before singular nouns beginning with a vowel.
Questi pantaloni sono molto belli. (These pants are very pretty.)
Questa domande e (accent) facile. (This question is easy.)
Quest'orologio non funziona. (This watch doesn't work.)

b. Quello indicates things that are far froma speaker. Like the adjective bello, quello resembles the forms of the definite article "il".
