coordinating conjunction
joins 2 parts of a sentence that are equally important

correlative conjunction
come in pairs (neither/nor, either/or, etc)
a complete sentence has:
a subject; a predicate; conveys a complete thought (can stand alone)
simple predicate
main verb and helping verbs
fragment

run-on sentence
two or more sentences (independent clauses) that are connected w/out any punctuation
comma splice

parenthetical elements
words used to add emphasis, order, or personal thought that could be put in parenthesis
colon
connects an independent clause to a list, explanation, rule, or quotation
hyphen
not a punctuation mark, but a spelling mark
antecedent
noun that a pronoun refers to
modifier
adjective, adverb, phrase, or clause that acts as an adjective or adverb
