- tactic (n)
- A method or technique used to achieve an immediate goal.
- brainstorm (v)
- To think of many ideas on a topic quickly (usually done by groups)
- related (adj)
- Connected in some way to an idea.
- paraphrase (v)
- To restate something in other, usually simpler words.
- focus (n)
- The main or most important thing or things.
- predict (v)
- To say what is going to happen in the future. In the TOEIC test this usually means to guess what you are going to hear in the listening section.
- scan (v)
- To read quickly to pick out specific information (e.g. looking for a name in a phone book)
- skim (v)
- To read quickly to get a general idea of the contents (e.g. quickly going over a movie review to see if it's worth watching)
- key words (n)
- The most important words for understanding meaning (usually nouns, verbs, adjectives and adverbs)
- similar (adj)
- Having some things in common, but not completely identical (e.g. African elelphants are very similar to Indian elephants)
