Illusory correlation
Belief that two events, characteristics, other variables are related when actually not. Result of schema that links the variables.

Females: more conversation, more likely to talk to other females in public, more need for verbal communication and self-disclosure
Males: Less of the above and more reliance on shared activities
What role does anxiety play in affiliation?
In stressful situation, high anxiety persons prefer to be with others and most want others to also be high anxiety. Would rather be alone than with low anxiety persons.
