- Protagonist
- The main character of hero of the story. The Scarlet Pimpernel in the \"Protagonist\" of the book.
- Antgonist
- The person working against the protagonist or hero of the book. Chauvelin is the \"Antagonist\" of the book.
- Irony
- Using a word or phrase to mean the exact opposite of it\'s literal or normal meaning. How Sir Percy seems dumb, but is really intelligent because he was able to hide from everyone how clever he was.
- Sarcasm
- The use of praise to mock someone or something. How the Jew told Chauvelin his horse was very fast, even though he knew it was really slow.
- Allusion
- A reference to a familiar person, place or thing. The guillotine.
- Metaphor
- The comparison of two unlike things, in which no word of comparison, (as or like) is used. Sir Percy IS the Scarlet Pimpernel.
- Simile
- The comparison of two unlike things using the words as or like.
- Personification
- giving an inanimate object human-like features.
- Connotation
- The idea or feeling that a word invokes a person in addition to its primary or literal meaning.
