- Sync
- The degree to which picture and sound are lined up, in-sync being lined up perfectly.
- Telecine
- A machine for transferring film to video.
- Wild sound
- Non-sync sounds, recorded without the camera running, usually recorded to supplement the sync takes.
- Workprint
- A positive copy of the original negative that is cut during the editing process.
- A&B Rolls
- The negative of an edited film, cut to correspond to picture, built into 2 rolls, A and B, to allow for invisible splices, instant changes of the timing lights, fades, and dissolves, without the use of opticals.
- Rushes
- The workprint, when it is just back from the lab, unedited, AKA the dailies.
- Rough Cut
- The edited film, between the stages of being an assembly and a fine cut.
- Conforming
- The word to describe the negative cutter\'s matching of the original to the workprint.
- Academy Leader
- Standard countdown leader, counting down 8 to 3 and then with one frame of 2, at which point there is a single frame beep on the soundtrack. It is used at the beginning of a film for the lab to line up sound (using the beep) and later for the projectionist to know when to turn on the lamp.
- Answer Print
- The first corrected print made from the A&B rolls, printed with the optical track. Sometimes called a \"married print.\"
- Release Print
- A print made after the final answer print has been approved. These are the prints released to movie theaters.
- A.D.R.
- Automated Dialogue Recording. Known as \"dubbing,\" this is done as a supplement to location sound.
