- What is Geology?
- Geology is basically the study of the earth and what it’s made of Geology has many aspects, many of which you will learn about in this course. The foundation for learning about geology is to learn about rocks and minerals, so that is what we will be doing first.

- A mineral is: Naturally occurring Usually inorganic A chemically homogeneous crystalline solid Crystalline – atoms are arranged in an orderly way Minerals have a strictly defined chemical composition and physical properties Rocks are made of minerals.

- Crystal Habit The way a crystal grows. Luster The way light reflects off of a mineral’s surface. Color Hardness Streak The color of a mineral when powdered. Broken Surface of a Mineral Fracture and Cleavage Special Properties
