begins in the rectum or sigmoid colon and spreads up thru colon as disease progresses colon wall is thinner shows continuous inflammation mucus line of large intestine ulcerated w/ NO PATCHES of HEALTY TISSUE!!
CD Pattern of Inflammation
inflammation may occur in patches in 1 or more organs in the digestive system "Coblestone" appearance (intermittent pattern of diseased and healthy tissue) deep ulceration may extend into all layers of bowel wall
IBD Complications
strictures fissures fistulas smoking makes CD worse
IBD Treatments
5-H serotonin drugs= Ondansetron (Zofran) prevent stimulation of type 3 serotonin receptors in the CTZ (Chemoreceptor Trigger Zone) *Prevents N&V Adverse effects: headache, constipation, malaise Serious AE: arrhythmias, hypotension, extrapyramidal effects
