- CD Symptoms
- pain Right Lower Abdomen
- UC Symptoms
- pain Lower Left Abdomen, bleeding from rectum
- UC Pattern of Inflammation
- begins in the rectum or sigmoid colon and spreads up thru colon as disease progresses colon wall is thinner shows continuous inflammation mucus line of large intestine ulcerated w/ NO PATCHES of HEALTY TISSUE!!
- CD Pattern of Inflammation
- inflammation may occur in patches in 1 or more organs in the digestive system "Coblestone" appearance (intermittent pattern of diseased and healthy tissue) deep ulceration may extend into all layers of bowel wall
- IBD Complications
- strictures fissures fistulas smoking makes CD worse
- IBD Treatments
- 5-H serotonin drugs= Ondansetron (Zofran) prevent stimulation of type 3 serotonin receptors in the CTZ (Chemoreceptor Trigger Zone) *Prevents N&V Adverse effects: headache, constipation, malaise Serious AE: arrhythmias, hypotension, extrapyramidal effects
