- Porifirio Diaz
- 1876-1911 president of Mexico who claims to be a liberal but he is a conservative neocolonial dictator. His slogan was "Liberty, order, and progress". His rule is marked by a period of rapid economic growth at the expense of democratic principles.
- Francisco "pancho" Villa
- A hero tothe people. Has a large peasant army. He is a caudillo in many ways. He is very unbalanced. The U.S. sees him as a bandit, Diaz sees him as a rebel.
- Emiliano Zapata
- (South) A "less crazy" rebel leader he is by trade a horse trainer. He forms his own peasant army and has the slogan "land and liberty". He is a folk hero. He is the very epitamy of a mexican revolutionary.
- Venustiano Carranza
- Great land owner, supporter of Madero. Leader of the constitutionalists. President from 1914-1920. War of the winners (1914-1917) He gets rid of Villa and Zapata. He comes up with the Constitution of 1917. He flees mexico. His regime is marked by political corruption.
- Constitution of 1917
- written by Carranza. Weakens the latifundio, weakens the church, weakens foreighn buisnesses. Reflected the views of the radical majority of the the delegates at the convention.
- Positivism
- A social philosophy that come sout in the mid 19th centruy. Goes hand in hand with the whole idea of "preogress" from neocolonialism. Says that the senses are the only true basis of human knowledge.Drifts over from France and fits in well with neocolonialism.
- Alvaro Obregon
- President of Mexico from 1920-1924. Marked for national capitalism and reviving the economy.
- Lazaro Cardenas
- President of Mexico from 1934-1940. Very loyal to the mexican revolution. During his presidency he gives away 45 million acres of land to the ejidos ( villages). He supports labor unions and strikes. He nationalizes the oil industry (Expropriation). He has a good neighbor policy with the U.S.
- Hipolito Yrigoyen
- President of Argentina from 1916-1922 and again in 1928-1930. Leaders of the radical party. He is a very civil caudillo. He leads a middle class reform party called the radical party. First massed based political party. He symbolizes nationalization of industries.
