- dialup internet connection
- a network connection which requires that a telephone number be dialed.
- dialup subscriber lines (DSL)
- DSL is a high-speed internet line that runs through regular phone lines. also refurred to as "always on" connection because you do not have to disconnect from it in order to use your phone.

- search engine
- a web sit that searchs the internet for specific information, by creating indexes, or large databases of web sites (based on titles, keywords, and the texts in the pages), search engines can locate relevant web sites when users enter search terms or phrase.(example: yahoo, excite,google.)
- server
- a computer that stores information that can be accessed via internet. when users connect to a server, they access program, files , and information from the server. common servers, mail servers, and LAN servers.
- URL
- "uniform resource locator." A URL is the address of a specic web site file on the internet.
