Box Plot
Minimum
Q1
Median
Q3
Maximum

Q1
first quartile= median of the bottom half of the data excluding the actual median
Q3
third quartile= median of the top half of the data excluding the actual median
IQR
Q3-Q1
Outliers
Q3+1.5(IQR)
Q1-1.5(IQR)
what does a box plot measure
quantatative variables, numerical solutions
Least variable
closest together
most variable
most spread out
Dot Plots
clumps that show variability
Measures of center
Midrange and Mean
Midrange
minimum + maximum (divided by) 2

Mean
sum of all observations (divided by) number of observations
Median
any number which seperates the data into a top half and a bottom half
Ways to calculate spread
Range, IQR, MAD
The Mean absolute Deviation (MAD)
the average distance of an individual from the mean of the sample
How to calculate the MAD
1. subtract each individual result from the mean
2. Take the absolute value of each "deviation" from the mean
3. Find the mean of the absolute value deviations.--- add the total value of the absolute deviations and divide it by the number of deviations.

who contributes most the mad
the person with the biggest deviation from the mean
Measure consistency
spread
Measure length
measure of center
Segmented bar graph
graph that uses two groups to calculate 100%
