pos/neg survey research
Pos: Lets sociologist collect data on a topic of their choice. Neg: more expensive and time consuming. May not yeild and accurate representation of larger group.
pos/neg participant-observation
Pos: Yields deeper and more accurate informatoin about research subjects. Neg: cant reach many people and is time consuming.
anomie
a state of relative normlessness or a state in which norms have been eroded. A norm is an expectation of how people will behave, and it takes the form of a rule that is socially rather than formally enforced
Differential Associational Theory
Contacts: The more deviant contacts you have, the more likely you are to become deviant Techniques: by interacting with deviants, we tend to gain knowledge of how to carry out deviant acts. Meanings: When around deviants, you begin to adopt their belief system and rationale.
