- The British’s advantages were that they were the greatest imperial power in the world. They were powerful, experienced, well-trained, fully equipped army and navy. They had a strong central government with winning record against major European rivals, and they were fighting an untrained, poorly equipped, undisciplined, poorly funded colonial force. The British lost b/c they were fighting on foreign soil. The colonial territory was too vast to effectively occupy, and they underestimated American resistance and they overestimated loyalist support.

- The French Navy blockaded the harbor preventing the resupply of British Troop to Cornwallis at the Battle of Yorktown.
- What were the elements of Britain’s southern strategy? Why did it fail?
- Offer freedom to slaves who escape to British lines. Invade coast, march into interior with conquering force, loyalist supporters will rise up and help occupy conquered territory. It failed b/c they relied to heavily on the slaves.
