authentic cadence

a closing or ending for a phrase of music, made up of 2+ chords
chromatic half step
a half step which does not occur naturally w/in the key of the music
deceptive cadence

a half step which occurs naturally with in the key of the music
diminished 7th chord
a four note chord made up of a diminished triad, and a diminished 7th above the root
dominant seventh
a four note chord made up of a major triad, and a minor 7th above the root. root position is V7, first inversion is V6/5, second inversion V4/3, third inversion V2
figured bass
symbols used to denote the inversion of a chord (such as 6, 6/4, 6/5, 4/3, or 2)
first inversion

half diminished 7th chord
a four note chord made up of a diminished triad, and the interval of a mino seventh
major seventh chord
a four note chord made up of a major triad and the interval of a major 7th
