Noun
The part of speech that identifies a person, place, thing, or idea
Proper Noun
A noun that identifies a specific person, place, thing, or idea; almost always capitalized
Common Noun
A noun that identifies a general person, place, thing, or idea; usually not capitalized
Noun Phrase
A group of related words containing a noun and any associated modifiers
Noun Clause
A group of related words containing a subject and a verb that acts as a noun
Compound Nouns
A noun composed of more than one word
Count Noun
A noun which identifies something that can be counted
Collective Noun
A count noun which takes a singular form yet is composed of multiple individuals or items
Mass Noun
A noun which identifies something that cannot be counted
Abstract Noun
A noun which identifes something that is not tangible
Singular
A count or collective noun that identifies one person, place, thing, or idea
Plural
A count, collective, or mass noun that identifies more than one person, place, thing, or idea
Subject
A noun within a sentence that is acting, existing, or occuring
Simple Subject
A subject that does not have any modifiers
Understood Subject
A subject that is excluded from the sentence but understood to be the subject; primarily used in commands
