Motion
The state in which one object's distance from another is changing.
Acceleration
The rate at which velocity changes.
International system of units (SI)
A system of measurement based on multiples of ten and on established measures of mass, length, and time; used by scientists to measure the properties of matter.
Linear
A relationship whose graph is a line with a constant slope.
Meter
The basic SI unit of length.
Nonlinear
A relationship whose graph is a curved line.
Plate
One of the major pieces that that make up Earth's upper layer.
Reference point
A place or object used for comparison to determine if an object is in motion.
Slope
The steepness, or slant, of a line on a graph.
Speed
The distance an object travels in one unit of time.
Velocity
Speed in a given direction.
