Psoas Major
Origin
Transverse processes of lumbar vertabrae; sides of bodies of T12-L5 vertabrae and intervening intervertebral discs
Psoas Major
Insertion
By a strong tendon to lesser trochanter of femur
Psoas Major
Innervation
Lumbar plexus via ventral branches of L2-L4 nerves
Psoas Major
Action
Acting inferiorly with iliacus, it flexes thigh; acting superiorly it flexes vertebral column laterally; it is used to balance the trunk; when sitting it acts inferiorly with iliacus to flex trunk
Iliacus
Origin
Superior 2/3 of iliac fossa, ala of sacrum, and anterior sacroiliac ligaments
Iliacus
Insertion
Lesser trochanter of femur and shaft inferior to it, and to posas major tendon
Iliacus
Innervation
Femoral Nerve
Iliacus
Action
Flexes thigh and stabilizes hip joint; acts with posas major
Quadratus Lumborum
Origin
Medial (1/2) half of interior border of 12th rib and tips of lumbar transverse processes
Quadratus Lumborum
Insertion
Iliolumbar ligament and internal rib of iliac crest
Quadratus Lumborum
Innervation
Ventarl branches of T12 and L1-L4 nerves
Quadratus Lumborum
Action
Extends laterally flexes vertebral column; fixes 12th rib during inspiration
Origin
Tensor Fascia Lata
ASIS; anterior aspect of iliac crest
Insertion
Tensor Fascia Lata
Iliotibial tract (IT), wich attaches to lateral aspect of condyle of tibia
Action
Tensor Fascia Lata
Adduct and medially rotate thigh; keep pelvis level when ipsalateral limb is weight bearing and advance side during swing phase
Innervation
Tensor Fascia Lata
Superior Gluteal Nerve
