Homeostasis
bodily adjustments to changes in the environment that help maintain a steady, healthy balance
Disease
a change in structure or function that results from disequilibrium
Sign
objective evidence of disease based on physical examination and laboratory and diagnostic tests
Symptom
subjective indications of disease reported by the patient
Diagnosis
determination of the nature of disease based on signs, symptoms, and lab and diagnostic tests

Acute

Chronic
a long term, slowly progressing disease

Remission

Exacerbation
the re-emergence of symptoms and signs when a disease is more active
Relapse
the reoccurence of a disease long after its apparent cessation
Complication
an additional disease or abnormality that occurs as a result of the initial disease
Sequela
the permanent aftermath of a disease
Mortality
a measure of deaths attributed to a disease over a designated period of time
Morbidity
a measure of disability or extent of illness caused by a disease

Pathogenesis
the cause and development of disease
Idiopathic
an unknown cause of a disease
Lesion
the damage done to tissue and cells
