homogeneous mixture (kool aid)
solution
the substance that is dissolved
solute
the substance that does the dissolving
solvent
solute will dissolve in solvent
soluble
solute will not dissolve in solvent
insoluble
the degree to which a solute dissolves in a solvent
solubility
a solution that does not have a lot of solute dissolved
dilute
a solution that has a lot of solute dissolved
concentrated
all solute is dissolved, no more can be added
saturated
solute is dissolved and there is more undissolved solute in the solution
supersaturated
solute is dissolved, ore solute can be added and will still dissolve
undersaturated
the ability of a substance to break up into ions in solution (NaCl -> Na+ + Cl-)
dissociation
a substane that dissociates
electrolyte
a weak conductor of electricity; partially dissociates in solution (in the solution you will have ions as well as some of the original substance becuase it doesn't all break up)
weak electrolyte
strong conductor of electricity; completly dissociates in solution (in the solution you will only have ions - none of the original substance will be present becuase it all breaks up)
strong electrolyte
solid formed in a reaction
precipitate
double replacement reactions where a solid is formed from 2 aqueous solutions
precipitation reactions
