Hyperbole
a figure of speech in which the truth is exaggerated for emphasis or hummourus effect.
Bias
impartial judgement.
pathos
an appeal to the audience's emotion.
Consonance
the repetition in two or more nearby words of similar consonat sounds preceded by different accented vowels.
Assonance
the repetition of vowel sounds in two or more nearby words.
Connotation
the emotional associations of a term.
Dennotation
the objective meaning of a term.
Alliteration
the repetition of consonant sounds at the begining of words.
ethos
appealing to the audience through the credibility of the speaker in a literary work.
Cohesion
the sense of unity and interrelation among ideas in a piece of writing.
Metaphor
a comparison between two things that does NOT use "like" or "as"
Simile
the comparison of two things using "like" and "as"
Motif
a reoccuring word, phrase, image, idea, object or action in a literary work.
Vernacular
the standard native language of country or region.
exigence
an authors motivation for writing or speaking.
