- Allegory
- people represent an idea about life and have a strong lesson.
- Alliteration
- repeating a consonant sound in close proximity to others or beginning several words with the same vowel sound. "buckets of big blue berries"
- Allusion
- reference to a familiar person, place or thing - Ex. Don Juan
- Analogy
- a comparison of objects or ideas that appear to be different but are alike.
- Anapestic Meter
- composed of short-short-long or unaccented-unaccented-accented Ex. Limerick Poetry
- Anecdote
- a brief stroy that makes a point.
- Antagonist
- deceives, frustrates or works against protagonist.
- Aphorism
- a wise saying, short and written
- Apostrophe
- a turn from the general audience to address a specific group of people.
- Assonance
- a repetition of the same sound in words close to one another. Ex. White Stripes
- Blank Verse
- Unrhymed,occuring in iambic pentameter
- Caesura
- A natural pause or break
- Characterization
- the method used to develop a character. Ex. Actions, Traits & thoughts
