- Interval
Differences between values are meaningful, but there is no natural starting point. Ratios are meaningless. 0 does not mean nothing.
Example: Temperature (0*F is not without temperature)
- Nominal
Categories only. Data cannot be arranged in an order.
Example: Gender (male/female)
- Ordinal
Categories can be ordered. Differences cannot be determined or they are meaningless.
Example: Pain levels
- Ratio
Like interval level, but there is a natural zero starting point. Ratios are meaningful.
Example: Price ($0 means no cost, $10 is twice $5)
